Beach Energy is seeking a Government Policy and Research Analyst to support our government relations, policy development and regulatory engagement activities across Federal, State and local jurisdictions.
This role provides high quality research, analysis and advice on political, legislative and public policy matters that may impact Beach’s operations, projects and reputation. Working closely with the Corporate Affairs teams, you will help anticipate emerging issues, inform strategic decision making and support effective engagement with government, regulators and external stakeholders.
As part of Beach Energy’s Corporate Affairs function, you will contribute to work that protects value, supports regulatory outcomes and strengthens Beach’s position as a trusted participant in Australia’s energy sector.
About the Role
Reporting to the Manager Media and Government Relations, the Government Policy and Research Analyst supports policy monitoring, political research, briefing preparation and stakeholder engagement activities.
You will act as a trusted internal advisor by translating complex policy and regulatory developments into clear, practical insights for senior leaders and operational teams.
This role is ideal for someone with experience in public policy, government relations or research who enjoys working across complex stakeholder environments and contributing to informed, evidence-based decision making.
Key responsibilities include:
- Monitor and analyse political, legislative and public policy developments across relevant government portfolios.
- Undertake research on energy, resources, climate, land access and community related policy and regulatory frameworks.
- Prepare clear, concise research briefs, background papers and issues summaries for internal stakeholders.
- Support the planning and delivery of government engagement activities, including briefings, talking points and correspondence.
- Assist in the preparation of government, parliamentary and regulatory submissions in collaboration with internal teams.
- Provide research and policy support to regulatory approvals, land access and consultation processes as required.
- Maintain records of government engagement activities and support internal reporting requirements.
- Work collaboratively across Corporate Affairs, Legal, First Nations engagement, regulatory and land access teams.
- Identify emerging risks, sensitivities and opportunities associated with external stakeholder and community engagement.
About You
We are looking for someone who brings strong research capability, sound judgement and the ability to communicate complex information clearly. You will be comfortable working with sensitive information and supporting engagement with government and regulatory stakeholders in a professional and considered manner.
You’ll thrive in this role if you have:
- Experience in policy research, government relations, public affairs or a related field.
- Strong understanding of government processes, policy development and regulatory frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality research and translate complex information into clear written advice.
- Experience preparing briefs, submissions or reports for senior stakeholders.
- Strong written communication skills with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Tertiary qualifications in public policy, political science, law, economics, communications, social sciences or a related discipline.
